ANTHONY PAULEKAS

Anthony Paulekas of Farrell, a native of Cherry Valley in Washington County, played center on the Washington High School football team for four seasons before his graduation in 1932. He was a member of an undefeated and untied team in 1931.

Paulekas played four more years as starting center at Washington & Jefferson College where he graduated in 1936. He was a small college All-America player in his final season.

He played one season in the National Football League with the Green-Bay Packers and was a member of the NFL championship team, starting four of 12 games at guard or center.

Paulekas served as a teacher and assistant football coach at Farrell High School from 1937 through 1943, and in 1944 succeeded his former high school coach Hank Day as head coach when Day returned to Wash Hlgh.

He also coached wrestling and track at Farrell before his retirement in 1966 and produced nine PIAA wrestling champions from 1941 through 1950, also winning one district team title and tying Wash High for one WPIAL team championship.
