BRUCE GOSSETT

One of the top NFL kickers Bruce was a graduate of Cecil High School and attended Clarion State College, Ferrum Jr. College and graduated from the University of Richmond. He performed all the punting and kicking functions at all schools. At Richmond he led his conference in punting average.

Signed as a free agent punter by the NFL L.A. Rams in 1964. He started kicking field goals and kicked 18 of 24; the second highest percentage (at that time) in NFL history of kickers with more than 20 attempts. He held the L.A. Rams record of 120 field goals, a NFL record for averaging over 20 or more field goals per year.

He kicked 4 field goals within a game in 4 different games. Voted to the NFL All-Rookie Team in 1964, he led the NFL in scoring in 1966 and was selected to the 1966 and 1969 NFL PRO BOWL.

Bruce played for the San Francisco 49ers for 5 years and kicked 99 field goals and holds the 49ers record of 5 field goals in a game. He played in 6 NFL championships, 3 each with the Rams and 49ers. And he was the only field goal kicker, at that time, to average over 20 field goals a year for a career. His longest field goal was 54 yards.

He scored 1031 career points, 374 extra points and made 219 field goals (657 points). Bruce retired after the 1974 football season.
