DICK HALEY

Dick Haley, personnel director of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is a graduate of Midway High School, now part of the Fort Cherry jointure, where he played football four years.

Haley won three letters in football and was a two-year backfield starter at the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated in 1959. He was a member of Pitt’s Gator Bowl squad in 1956 and led the team in rushing and scoring in his senior year, capping it with an 86-yard punt return for a touchdown in the East-West Shrine game.

He was a ninth round draft choice of the Washington Redskins and played two seasons as a defensive back before being acquired by the Minnesota Vikings, then a National Football League expansion team.

He was traded to the Steelers and played for them from 1961 through 1964, ranking among team leaders in interceptions.

Haley began his scouting career with the Blesto organization in 1966 and joined the Steelers in 1971.

He has served for the past 18 years as director of player personnel and oversees testing, drafting and evaluation of college prospects in addition to being involved in all trades and personnel moves.

Haley, his wife and two children are residents of Bridgeville.
