DOMINICK J. ROMANO

Dominick J. (Scooter) Romano Jr., a resident of Washington, played football, basketball and baseball and competed in track, while serving as a trainer for two years at Trinity High School, where he graduated in 1948. He was a pitcher for the Hillers’ section championship baseball team.

Romano played baseball for Penn Cleaners in the Community League and signed a contract with the St. Louis Browns farm team, later returning to the Community League, where he pitched a no-hitter for the Knestrick Generals, which won the league title in 1951.

He also played for Scott Motor and Washington Steel in the Wheeling League and won the league batting title. He signed a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies farm team at Lima, Ohio, but entered the service and played for the XVI Corps in Japan which won a division title. He was a trainer for the Washington & Jefferson College football team for two years and played baseball for the Pennsylvania Transformers in the County League and Cokeburg in the Pigeon Creek Wagner League.

After retiring from baseball, Romano played two years of fast pitch softball for championship teams representing the Alpine Club and Polish Club. He managed the Washington American Legion team from 1972 through 1975, winning three section titles and placing fourth in the Pennsylvania playoffs in 1972.
