DONALD D. SCHRADER, JR.

Don has been a friend and mentor to the youth of our area for the past twenty years. He has unselfishly given his time and efforts for the betterment of our youth in the various youth baseball programs. He has coached and managed in the Washington Youth Baseball leagues 1986 through 2005, – Pinto (7-8 yr. olds), Mustang (9-10 yr. olds), Bronco (11-12 yr. olds), Pony (13-14 yr. olds), Colt (14-16 yr. olds) All-Stars at all levels including 2000 & 2005 Pony World Series Teams.

In addition to his coaching duties, Schrader was elected to the Washington Youth Baseball Council in 1994, Pinto League President, 1995-1997, Washington Youth Baseball Vice President, 19981999 and Washington Youth Baseball President, 1999-2003, serving two terms and currently serves on the Washington Youth Baseball Council.

During his presidency, Washington Youth Baseball increased the number of teams from 47 to 53 and registration increased from 515 to 656. He was instrumental in including the Shetland League for 5 & 6 year olds, and in the completion of Washington Youth Baseball’s 8th. Baseball field, (Shetland). In addition a memorial for past players and coaches of Washington Youth Baseball was created.

Don has fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming a coach. His goal was to always set a good example, being a teacher of the game and building character to his players to prepare them for adult lives. He is living his dream and continues to help our youth learn fairness, compassion and the importance of having fun.
