DR. STEVE BABYAK

Steve was a starting halfback on the Union High School’s (Burgettstown) 1941 undefeated WPIAL Championship football team. After high school, he like many others entered the U.S. Army during WW II and served for two years. He entered Findley College and earned a B.S. Degree in Education. He coached Burgettstown High School’s wrestling team from 1952 thru 1958. During that time he coached 2 PIAA Champions, 7 WPIAL Champions and 10 Section Champions. His 1958 team won the WPIAL. Team Championship and he was named the WPIAL Coach of the Year. He left Burgettstown with a record of 75-24-1

Dr. Babyak moved on to coach Wantaugh High School in New York from 1959 thru 1970. His 1968 team was Nashao County Champions and he was named Coach of the Year. At Wantaugh he coached 3 New York State Champions, 9 County Champions and over a dozen Section Champions. His record at Wantaugh was 108-57-4. His overall record was 183-81-5 for a winning percentage of .690. He received his Masters Degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctorate in Special Education from the University of Sarasota.
