GERALD CHAMBERS

As the Girls Track coach at Trinity High School from 1977 to 1996, Jerry Chambers established a record of 102 wins, 32 losses and a tie. His 1978 team was the WPIAL champion and PIAA runner-up. Under Chambers the 1977 team was second, and the 1980 squad fourth in the WPIAL. His 1979 team was third and the 1982 team fourth in the PIAA competition. They won the Washington-Greene County championships five times, in 1978, 1983, 1986, 1994 and 1996.

Chambers coached 48 WPIAL medal winners and 18 WPIAL champions. At the PIAA level he had 29 medal winners and eight champions.

At Canon-McMillan High School, Jerry participated in cross-country, wrestling and track. He went on to Edinboro University, graduating in 1963 with a BA degree in Art Education, and began teaching in the Washington School District as an elementary art educator. He was the junior high wrestling coach and initiated a boys cross-country team.

Chambers moved to Trinity Area School District in 1967 as a junior high art teacher and became boys cross-country coach and junior high wrestling coach. He was an art teacher and department chairman for 15 years at Trinity before becoming the athletic director, a position he held until his retirement in 1999.

A former member of the WPIAL Track and Field Committee, Chambers served on the WPIAL Wrestling Committee for 10 years and was its chairman for six years. His peers in the Tri-County Athletic Directors Association named him Athletic Director of the Year in 1997.

Jerry and his wife, Mary, reside in Amwell Township and have three daughters.
