HOWARD WARRELL

Howard (Boots) Warrell is a 1946 graduate of Claysville High School where he won three letters in basketball. He played for the Claysville Merchants baseball team as a pitcher and infielder.

He attended a Pittsburgh Pirate tryout camp but declined a contract and played semipro baseball for S.A. Meyer and Scott Motors before signing with the St. Louis Browns in 1948.

Warrell started with Olean, NY. in the Pony League as a third baseman and in 1950 played for Hopkinsville, KY. in the Kitty League. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and played baseball in Japan and Korea.

He returned to Hopkinsville in 1953 and the following year played for a semipro team in Springfield, MN., resuming his professional career with a Kansas City farm club in Hot Springs, AR., where he retired from the minor leagues after breaking a leg in 1955. He played one year with the Alpine Club of Washington.

Warrell, now a resident of Granville, OH, was a member of the Kitty League All-Stars at Hopkinsville and once went 10 for 10 in a doubleheader with a grand slam home run, another homer, three doubles, five singles and two walks.
