JOSEPH D. COMFORT

1954 Graduate of Washington High School. 2-year letterman in basketball,
2-year letterman in track, 2-year letterman in football.

All-WPIAL and All-State fullback in football and a member of the WPIAL
All-Star Team.

Fall of 1954 was a freshman at The University of Georgia on a football scholarship. Went to Georgia as a running back, defensive back and punter. Moved to Split “T” quarterback as a freshman and was the starting quarterback his junior year (1956). Three year letterman at Georgia. Highlight at Georgia-kicked winning extra point against Vanderbilt in 1955.

Coached The Washington Merchants semi-pro football team one year.

Coached one year for The Pennsylvania Mustangs, a semi-pro football team in the North American Football League. The team had members of the Pittsburgh Steelers taxi squad.

Had a tryout with the Baltimore Colts as a punter.
Played with such greats as Bart Starr, Alabama & Green Bay Packers, Fran Tarkenton Georgia & Vikings, Jimmy Orr & Bobby Waldon Georgia & Pittsburgh Steelers
