RAYMOND BRENNEN

Raymond C. Brennen of Arden enjoyed a long career as a soccer player in the days when many small communities in Washington County had their own teams.

He was educated in Washington area schools and started to play soccer for Curry. He then joined the Lincoln Hill team coached by longtime district soccer leader John Paige.

In 1939, Brennen tried out for the S.A. Healy pro soccer team in New York, for which he played from 1939 through 1941, when he returned to the area.

He played for the Polar Star Club of Avella for two years and organized his own team at Lincoln Hill which competed in the Washington County League.

Among his accomplishments he lists helping to develop many young players who were to become proficient in the game.
