Sammy Secreet of McDonald was an amateur and professlonal boxer from 1938 through 1950 with an overall 404-39 record with three draws.
He won the Pittsburgh Diamond Belt tournament from 1937 through 1939 and as a pro was ranked third in the world in the welterweight division in 1942.
He defeated junior welterweight champion Maxie Berger twice in the 1940s and met all-time boxing great Sugar Ray Robinson in a non-title fight. He also split-two decisions with Harold Green, who decisioned Rocky Graziano twice.
Secreet, a native of Fairmont, WV., was an outstanding baseball player in his youth and played on a sandlot team in West Virginia and American Legion squads in McDonald and Canonsburg. He served as a boxing instructor in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
He was involved in a rare double knockout in Detroit in 1941 when he and his opponent Pat Carroll both suffered eye cuts and the referee declared a TKO for both men in the seventh round. Secreet was ahead on points at the time.
