STEPHEN W. TELLECK

Stephen W. Telleck graduated in 1940 from Charleroi High School, where he was an outstanding tackle in football and won Ihree letters each in football and track. He was captain of the 1939 foothall learn and won All-Mon Valley Conference and WPIAI. first team honors.

Telleck received a football scholarship to George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and lettered twice in basketball and football before he joined the Marines in World War II and entered the V-12 program at Penn State University. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and was discharged with the rank of captain in 1946. He returned to Penn State and graduated in 1948.

Telleck taught 34 years in Bentleyville and Bentworth school districts and served as head basketball coach for 17 years and athletic director for 15 in addition to officiating football for 15 years. He had career coaching. record of 257-96 with seven section titles and one WPIAL championship.

He was honored in 1960, 1962, 1963 and 1964 as Washington County basketball Coach of the Year by Washington Knights of Columbus.

He was named Coach of the Year by Monessen Elks in 1963.

Telleck, who retired from coaching in 1965, continued as Bentworth athletic director until I982. He resides at R.D. 2 Charleroi, with his wife Frances.
