Dan “Moose” Brown has given over thirty-seven years of his life serving the youth of the area. To the thousands of baseball players and their families who have passed through the Washington Youth Baseball Program and the Brownson House, the name “Moose” has significant meaning.

Brown began his career in 1970, coaching baseball until 1977 and again in 1983 and 1984. He became president of the Pony League in 1985 and served until 1990. Also, he was a Washington Youth Baseball umpire from 1985-1999. In addition to coaching and being Pony president, he became WYB’s equipment manager, a position he held from 1973-1977 and again from 1988 to the present. He was elected treasurer of Pony Baseball in 2000 and continues to hold that important position today.

His service to the Pony League organization includes housing and transportation of World Series players from 1972-1977 and 1985 to the present. He has been the treasurer on the Board of Directors since 2001. Also, “Moose” was inducted into Pony Baseball’s “Wall of Fame” in 1995.

A graduate of Trinity High School and Penn State University, Brown has given his time to the Brownson House as a football coach from 1974-1977 and again from 1984-1991, and he is a member of the Brownson House Board of Directors, where he has served as treasurer from 1988 to the present.

From 1992-1999, “Moose” was a football referee. Dan has been McGuffey High School’s official in charge of the football press box since 1982 and has been their official clock operator for basketball, wrestling, and soccer since 1995. He also operates the time clock for W and J football and basketball games.
