Waynesburg Central High School, Brevard Jr College & Auburn University

Gibbs won five PIAA championships in track and field and cross country, including three consecutive 3,200-meter titles. He set the record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Junior National Championships in 1985. Gibbs helped Brevard Junior College win a national championship and earned a scholarship to Auburn University, where he became a 1994 NCAA Qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. At the Penn Relays, he ran a career-best 8:42.77 and helped Auburn’s 6,000-meter relay team finish third.
