CHARLES H. ENEIX
An outstanding field event athlete at Washington High School and Western Kentucky University, Chuck Eneix is a native of Washington and an avid golfer in this area today. He is married to Nancy Eneix. His son, Loren, is a freshman at Owens Community College in Toledo, OH, and son Jason is a sophomore at Perrysburg High School in Ohio. Eneix is an employee of Coca Cola Enterprises.
In his senior year at Washington High School, Eneix was the state champion in the discus and runner-up in the shot put. His state championship winning discus throw was 168 feet, nine inches. He is the school’s all-time record holder in the shot put with a distance of 60 feet, two inches, set in the WPIAL Championships. His WPIAL discus mark, 167 feet, five inches, was a meet record at the time. That season, 1969, he was named Outstanding Athlete of the WPIAL, Championships and the school’s Outstanding Senior Athlete.
Coach Joe Bugel gave Eneix a scholarship to Western Kentucky, calling him “one of the finest athletes signed.” Eneix returned Coach Bugel’s praise by setting the school discus record, 192 feet, two inches, in 1973, and turning in a school shot put record of 59 feet, nine inches.
Eneix was a member of the Ohio Valley All Conference team four years and won NCAA All-America honors in 1973.. In 1989 he was selected to the All-Time Ohio Valley Track and Field team and was elected to Western Kentucky’s Track and Field Hall of Fame the same year.
