Chris Shaw was a rising star in harness racing when a horrific accident in September 2021 left him with severe injuries, including an open compound fracture of his humerus and elbow, broken bones, facial fractures, and a dissection of his carotid artery. Over the next two years, Shaw underwent 10-12 surgeries and was faced with a long recovery. Despite the intense physical challenges, Shaw made a remarkable recovery and, on May 16, 2024, returned to the winner’s circle at The Meadows, marking his first victory since the accident. His perseverance and determination to return to racing after such a devastating incident are truly inspiring.
