Czar Walsh’s Legendary Shot (1995 PIAA Class AAAA Quarterfinals)

In one of the most iconic moments in local basketball history, Ringgold High School point guard Czar Walsh made a dramatic running heave from midcourt to tie the game at the buzzer and force overtime in the 1995 PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinals. Ringgold had trailed Erie Prep by double digits in the fourth quarter before Walsh’s incredible shot. Despite spraining his ankle just before halftime, Walsh, who had his ankle taped during the third quarter, played through the pain. Ringgold went on to win the game in double overtime, 77-67, and eventually claimed the state championship, becoming the first WPIAL team to win the largest classification in PIAA history. Walsh’s unforgettable shot was a key part of the Rams’ historic journey to the title.
