Dan Altmeyer

Horse Trainer and Driver-Hollywood Casino at the Meadows

Last June (2024), Altmeyer earned his 1,000th career victory when Ronnie Wren Jr. drove Pit Boss Hanover to win at the third race on the card at the Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. Altmeyer has been training horses since the mid-1970s but the United States Trotting Association did not start compiling statistics for trainers since 1991. Originally from Kittanning, the 70 year-old Altmeyer has trained six world champions, including Cambest, who in 1993 finished the mile in 1:46.1, which was a world record in that distance. He is not just a trainer, as Altmeyer has 600 career wins as a driver and earned nearly $18 million in combined purses between driving and training. Altmeyer’s entire family is deeply involved in harness racing. Their family-run organization, Altmeyer Wilder Racing, focuses on harness racing at The Meadows as well as Spring Garden Ranch in Florida with 30 horses either racing, training, or coming from their Broodmare Band and Foals.
