GEORGE REIHNER

George Reihner was an outstanding football player at Washington High School, Penn State University and with the Houston Oilers. He was also a United States Free Style Wrestling Federation All-American in 1972, the year he finished second in the Federation’s National Championship. Previously, he had been a Sectional and WPIAL wrestling champion in high school.

An offensive lineman, George was drafted in the second round by Houston in 1977, the 30th overall selection. He went on to become the American Football Conference Offensive Rookie of the Year and was a member of the National Football League’s All-Rookie team in 1977.

In 1979, he won the NFL’s Outstanding Offensive Line Award, anchoring the first offensive line in NFL history to produce in the same season the league’s leading rusher, Earl Campbell, while yielding the fewest quarterback sacks, 12. Named to All-Conference in 1971 and 1972, as captain of the Wash High Prexies, Rheiner was named the WPIAL Most Valuable Lineman, won All-State honors and was captain of the Big 33 team that played Ohio prep stars in 1972. George was a three-year starter at Penn State-1974, 1975 and 1976 – when he was named team captain.

During his collegiate career, he played in the Orange, Cotton, Sugar and Gator Bowls as well as the Senior Bowl in 1977. He was named to the All-East first team in both 1975 and 1976, and won Second Team All-American honors in 1976.

A brother of inductee John Rheiner, George currently resides in Scranton, PA with his wife, Judy, and three children, Allan, Janet and Kevin. He is the managing shareholder of Elliott Reihner Siedzikowski and Egan, P.C., a regional law firm with offices in Philadelphia, Scranton, Harrisburg and Reading. His oldest son, Allan, plays offensive tackle at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
