JOHN REIHNER

A Washington dentist since 1980, Dr. John Reihner was an outstanding football player and track and field athlete at Washington High School from 1968 to 1971, and at Penn State University from 1971-1975. He is the older brother of another inductee of the Class of 2000, George Reihner.

A kicking specialist on the Little Prexies football squad, Reihner won All-WPIAL and All-State honors in 1970, and played in the 1971 Big 33 game.

He continues to hold the Wash High record discus throw, 184 feet, one inch, and had a personal-best shot put over 57 feet as a prep athlete. He was also a member of the 880 yard relay team that won third place in the PIAA championships.

He was the first winner of Washington High School’s William E. Amos Outstanding Senior Athlete award. That award is named for another Washington-Greene Chapter inductee, a Washington & Jefferson College gridiron great in the mid-20s, Bill Amos.

At Penn State, John was a football letterman in 1972, 1973 and 1974, and played in the Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl. He lettered four years, 1971 through 1975 on Penn State track teams and was captain of the team in his senior year. Previously, he was the Penn State record-holder in the discus.

A graduate of the Temple University School of Denistry, John resides in Washington with his wife Robyn and their three children, Michelle, 16; Stephen, 14 and Thomas, 12. All of the children are active in sports and John has assumed the role of coach.
