Arguably one of the top All-Time athletes in Trinity history. A four year starting running back quarterback and defensive back. This versatile athlete played varsity basketball, football and track for one year .

“JoJo” was “Mr. Everything” leading the Hillers to two consecutive Southwestern Conference Championships, 1947 & 1948. During his senior year he rushed for 8 Td’s,kicked 11 Pat’s and threw 10 Td passes and was a defensive back that made many tackles while intercepting several passes.

Trinity played Crafton at Canonsburg Stadium for the 1948 WPIAL Class B Championship in a field that was a sea of mud before 10,000 fans. Neither teams offense could move the ball with any consistency and the defense domminated play,resulting in a scoreless 0-0 tie. Romano was the defensive star of the game making 13 tackles and intercepting a pass on the one yard line late in the game.

A two time (1947 & 1948) Southwestern Conference first team All-Star and a 1948 Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph and Pittsburgh Post Gazette All-WPIAL Running back. After playing at Indiana University, he transferred to Tampa University . He entered the U.S. Army (1951-1953) and served in Japan. After discharge Joe entered Morris Harvey and played in the Cigar Bowl in a losing effort (14-12) against his old team, Tampa University.
