ATHLETE – CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK AND FIELD

  • Considered one of the greatest long-distance runners in WPIAL history, she won 11 WPIAL gold medals and in track and field and two indoor state championships.
  • Three consecutive years (1989-91) she won the most difficult WPIAL trifecta, achieving gold in the 800-meter, 1,200-meter ad 1,600-meter runs.
  • In 1989 she was also part of Peters Township’s WPIAL champion 3,200-meter relay team.
  • As a senior she captured state indoor championships in the 1,000-meter and 2,000-meter runs.
  • She won the 1991 WPIAL Cross Country title and placed third in the PIAA in Class AA. She was a Class AAA PIAA state runner-up in 1990.
  • Also as a senior, Knabb placed third in the prestigious Penn Relays at Philadelphia’s legendary Franklin Field in 1991
  • Knabb, who played soccer before becoming a distance runner, earned scholastic All-American honors and competed in the Foot Locker Nationals.
  • Before her eighth-grade year, she captured a national championship in the 3,000-meter run in Utah.

At NC State

  • She twice received All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and was also named All-District as a freshman and sophomore.
  • Knabb was a part of three Wolfpack conference championship cross country teams.
  • Kathy helped the Wolfpack earn NCAA national team finishes of 8th, 11th, and 9th from 1991-93.
    She was selected as the women’s team’s MVP in 1994.
