MARK SIMPSON
CHARTIERS-HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL AND WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
He won the 1986 and 1987 PIAA Class AA Javelin Championships and his mark of 211’10” in 1987 remains a school record today. Simpson was a First-team PIAA All-State Track and Field selection in 1986 and 1987. Mark was a two-time WPIAL runner-up in the Javelin (1986-87), a place-winner in 1985 and a 1987 WPIAL place-winner in the Shot Put. A two-year team co-captain and three-time team MVP, Simpson won two Washington Country Javelin titles and helped the Bucs achieve three straight undefeated dual meet seasons. In football, he was a First-Team All-Eastern Conference tight end and linebacker, who was selected the conference’s Defensive MVP his senior season. A First-Team All-District tight end, Simpson was an Observer-Reporter Scholar Athlete Finalist. A senior team captain and MVP, he helped the Bucs win the conference title his senior season and received a full football scholarship to West Virginia University. In basketball, Simpson was a First-Team All-Conference selection and Second-Team All-District pick. He was also on the 1987 Washington-Greene County All-Star Team and is credited for recording the first slam dunk in school history.
