PETERS TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL
TEAM OF YESTERYEAR – 1989 BOY’S SOCCER TEAM
- Coached by Jerry Luxbacher, Peters Township compiled a final overall record of 23-2-2.
- The 1989 team won a remarkable fourth consecutive WPIAL Class AAA championship and second straight PIAA Class AAA title.
- This capped a four-year run where the Indians compiled an 82-16-7 (.855) cumulative record which included third-place PIAA finishes in 1986 and 1987.
- Eight players on the 1989 team were four-year members and three-year letterman, including Bob Dyer, Ryan Fender, Matt Francesconi, Neil Ivey, Jeff Lignelli, Al Lopus, Bill Rizzo, and Kevin Shaffer.
- Bob Dyer went on to be the team’s head coach and guided the program to four more WPIAL and two more PIAA championships.
- Nine players from the 1989 team went on to play soccer at the collegiate level.
