RICHARD S. CAPUTO
Graduate of Bellmar High School and California State College. He earned a B.S. in Secondary Education at California State College and a M.S. in Education at Duquesne University.
Dick was a two-year letter winner in football in high school and named the WTAE-Channel 4 Lineman of the week. He played football at California 1961-1963 and after graduation became an assistant football coach at Beth-Center High School for eleven years, then became head Jr. high football coach for two years.
He amassed 159-11-2 record in 17 years as Beth-Center’s head wrestling coach. His 1978 wrestling team were the WPIAL Champions and he was selected as a two time AA Section Coach of the Year, 1976 & 1984, and honored as the WPIAL AA Coach of the Year, 1978 & 1984. He was selected to coach the Wrestling Classic 1978 WPIAL Team, the 1984 WPIAL and Pennsylvania Teams.
He was an assistant football coach at California University, (1977-1988), and was defensive coordinator for three of those years. Dick served as athletic director at Beth-Center 1982-1994, a past president of the Tri-County (Fayette, Washington and Greene Counties), and named the Tri-County Athletic Director of the Year 1993-1994 and 1993-94 Recipient of the Dick Kohl Memorial Award.
Inducted into the Belle Vernon Area Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2001 and Beth-Center Wrestling Hall of Fame, Class 2003. He currently serves as the Membership Chairman of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association.
