Ron Junko was an outstanding wrestler at Trinity Area High School throughout his four year career with the Hillers. He was a two-time WPIAL Champion, three-time Section Champion, and a two-time Christmas Tournament Champion and Outstanding Athlete. In 1966, he was a runner-up at the PIAA State Championships and a State Champion in 1967. Ron was also a Golden Triangle Champion. He finished his scholastic wrestling career with a record of 79-10-1.
After graduating from Trinity, Ron was awarded a four-year scholarship to Toledo University where he wrestled on the varsity team for three years. He was a two-time AAU Ohio Champion in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Junko was a
two-time Conference Champion, two-time All-American Conference Champion, and an Honorable Mention All-American. In 1970, he placed sixth in the nation in the 134 lb. weight class. During his career at Toledo, he earned numerous honors and championships and qualified for the U. S. Olympic Trials. His college record was an impressive 70-7-0. Ron went on to teach and coach wrestling in the Trinity, McGuffey, and
Canon-McMillan School Districts. During that time, he coached thirteen section champions, four WPIAL champions, and one PIAA state champion. He finished his coaching career with a record of 61-28.
