Kushner served as head football coach at Moon High School, Peters Township, and Trinity High School, accumulating several accolades including the Washington County Coach of the Year in 1980. He spent his career in education, including teaching and administrative roles at multiple schools, and retired in 2002. Kushner served on various athletic committees and was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame in 2025 as a Contributor. A former Colgate football player, he was selected for the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award in 1965.
