WILLIAM W. WESTLUND
William (Hooks) Westlund, a Washington High School graduate, participated in numerous amateur sports before beginning a successful career as a high school and college basketball and football official.
Westlund, now residing in Kirkland, WA., near Seattle, played softball in the Washington Church League: VFW and Findlay Clay and was a member of various basketball teams including Arms Club Juniors, Second Christian, McWreath Dairy, Jimmie’s Service and American Legion 175, in addition to service teams in Norfolk, VA., Miami, FL. and San Diego, CA. He also played amateur football, soccer and ice hockey.
He started his officiating career in 1948 and continued through 1972.
His assignments included many WPIAL and PIAA basketball playoffs and WPIAL football playoffs. He also officiated Pennsylvania Conference and independent basketball games.
