Al DeLucia participated in football, baseball, and track at Canonsburg High School and was a member of the 1935-1936 WPIAL championship baseball team and co-captain of the 1937 football team.

Following his graduation in 1938, Al played football for legendary Coach Aldo “Buff” Donelli at Duquesne from 1939-1941. During his time at Duquesne, the football team had a 23-1-1 record with undefeated seasons in 1939 and 1941. The 1941 team finished as one of three undefeated, untied teams in the nation, giving up a total of twenty-one points all year.

As a senior at Duquesne, Al was president of the Varsity Club and won the Judge Samuel Weiss Award for Athletics. He was drafted by the Cleveland Rams in 1942, but elected to enlist in the Army’s Officer Candidate School.

DeLucia began his football coaching career at Alliance College in 1946 before becoming head coach at Dunbar High School in 1947. At Canonsburg High School from 1948-1958, his teams won the Southwest Conference Championships in 1949, 1950, 1952, and 1953 and a co-championship in 1951.

In 1950, Canonsburg shared the WPIAL Championship after playing New Brighton to a 13-13 tie. That same year, Al was named coach of the West team in the Kiwanis Club All-Star Game. Following his coaching career, Al DeLucia became a long time administrator at Canonsburg and Canon-McMillan High Schools. He passed away on February 14, 2004.
