ALLENBY W. LEWIS

Allenby W. (Amy) Lewis, a Washington native now a resident of Mulberry, Florida, was a starter for the Washington High School teams in 1935 and 1936.

After serving two and one-half years in the Air Corps in World War II, he enrolled at Washington & Jefferson as a 28-year-old freshman and played three years at right end for the Presidents. He was the lightest player on the line at 160 lbs.

He was noted as one of the key blockers for W & J’s great running back Dan Towler, who later starred for the Los Angeles Rams.

Lewis played fast pitch softball for Washington teams and for 3M Corp. in Bristol in the 1950s and was a high school baseball umpire. He was employed by Jessop Steel Co. for 28 years and retired in 1984 as district sales manager in St. Louis.
