EARL A. JEFFERS

Earl A. Jeffers of Washington will be honored for his accomplishments in track and field.

Jeffers, a four-year letterman in track at Washington High School, was WPIAL champion in the 200 low hurdles in 1942 and placed second in the PIAA meet. He continued his running career at Muskingum College, where he ran the 100-yard dash in 9.9 seconds and was a member of the 880 relay team, becoming one of the best track and field performers in the Ohio Conference.

He was also an outstanding running back and punter in football at Wash High and was named second team WPIAL halfback in 1942.

After spending three years in the service, where he played for the Army team in an Army-Navy All-Star game in the Phillipine Islands in 1945, he resumed his football career at Muskingum where he played from t946 through 1949 and was a starting halfback and all-conference punter on the Ohio Conference championship team in 1949.

Jeffers was inducted into the Muskingum Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.
