He also won the West Virginia state open championship prone small bore rifle three times; Pennsylvania Hess Iron Sight Trophy Match in 1971; was Pennsylvania Small bore Rifle champion in 1973, and was presented with the National Rifle Association Distinguished Medal for Prone small bore Riflemen.
He teamed with his wife Ruth to win a National Lyman Doubles Match at Camp Dodge, Des Moines, IA, in 1949. He was a member of the International Dewar Team which fired a witnessed postal match against English-speaking countries of the world and was a member of four-man gallery rifle teams which won national championships in four-position matches indoors.
