JAMES L. ROSS

James L. Ross of Washington started his sandlot baseball career with the champion VFW team in the Community League in 1946 after serving in the armed forces in World War II. He also played for S.B. McWreath Dairy in the Pigeon Creek Wagner League and batted over 300 in both leagues.

In 1947 he played for S.A. Meyer, which won the Washington County American Division championship and the Wheeling Intelligencer League playoffs.

Ross spent the years from 1948 through 1954 with S.A. Meyer, Scott Motors and Alpine Club and averaged more than 300 at the plate each season, batting .510 in the Intelligencer League one season.

He was named to the Washington County West Division All-Star team twice and was also selected as a Community League and Intelligencer League All-Star.
