JAMES R. CHEMENTO

Graduate of Canonsburg High School and attended Waynesburg College. At Canonsburg Jim was a freshman wrestling WPIAL Runner-up at 127 lbs. in 1944 and a WPIAL Champion at 138 lbs. in 1946. As a senior his record was 10-1 prior to a season ending knee injury, depriving him of an opportunity to defend his WPIAL championship. His high school record was 52-8-2 for a winning percentage of .855. A 4-year football player, Jim was named to the Class “A” All-WPIAL Team as a halfback.

He was an outstanding and respected WPIAL & PIAA Wrestling & Football Official. He officiated wrestling from 1952-1975 and officiated numerous WPIAL Tournaments and was chosen to officiate the 1958 and 1971 PIAA Tournaments.

In football he officiated from 1952-1982 working numerous WPIAL Playoff games. He was Rules Interpreter for the Washington/Greene County Officials Association.

Chemento served in the National Guard, United States Army, for 23 years and a retired as Captain. He was a member of the famed Pennsylvania 28th. Division and was called to active duty in August 1950 and served in Germany until June of 1952.
