JULIO-DOMINIC MARRA

Julio Dominic Marra, professional bowler, became the first Washington county resident to attain Professional status in 1958. An exceptionally talented bowler, he won and place in many Washington County and National Tournaments.

Dom was the Western Pennsylvania Singles champion in the late 1960’s, champion of the Washington county Bowlers Association Singles Tournament in 1969 and winner of the first Alpine Classic Singles Tournament in 1969.

He led the tournament in High Game (279); three-game total (695) and title pins (1,883).

He rolled many non-sanctioned perfect 300 games in his career.

He became a part owner of Haliday’s Bowling Alleys in Washington and bowled in at least four leagues per week in the 1950’s through 1988, the year before his death.

Dom was a participant and sponsor for 35 years of the prestigious Peterson Championship Bowling Classic in Chicago, Ill., a professional bowling tournament. He was a winner in the tournament in 1955, 1962, 1975 and 1978.

He participated in the PBA’s regional televised three-day weekend tournaments as well as participating in many ABC sanctioned tournaments around the country. Inducted into the Washington County Bowling Hall of Fame and the recipient of its Superior Award and Meritorious Award in 2002.

Dom died in 1989 and is survived by his wife, Margaret, and their two children, Rosalyn and Annette.
