RONALD A. MALTONY

Ron was an outstanding athlete at Union High School in Burgettstown, where he played Offensive guard, fullback and linebacker. He won the WMCK Football Award and was named to the Washington County All-Star Team and honored by the Washington County Optimist Club. A 1956 WPIAL wrestling champion, he became the first Burgettstown wrestler to win a PIAA wrestling Championship. He was undefeated in his senior year, 22-0, and his high school career record was 60-9.

A graduate of Purdue University, he earned his B.S. Degree in Physical Education and Recreation. He was Purdue’s 1958 football sophomore of the year, AP/UPI Lineman of the week, 1959-’60 Notre Dame All Opponent team, I 958-’59-’60 All-Big Ten, 4 time Player of The Week, 1959-’60 Catholic AllAmerican, 1960 Playboy All-American, played in the East-West Shrine Game, Hula Bowl and was a Saturday Evening Post All-American. Maltony was the 1958 AAU heavyweight-wrestling champion and a Big Ten third place winner at heavyweight.

Drafted in 1961 by the Washington Redskins where he played guard & linebacker, also in 1962 played for the Ottawa Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He was one of the founders of the Lafayette Generals Football Organization, National Amateur Football League in 1972. He was a head coach for 5 years, General Manager for 3 years and had a record of 48-12. They were division champions in 1974 and `75. He coached Little League football for 8 years, baseball 4 years and basketball 2 years.
