RUTH H. JOHNSON

Ruth H. Johnson of Washington will also be honored for her shooting achievements.

Mrs. Johnson, who began her career with the Frazier-Simplex Club in 1948, set a national record for women with a score of 400-34x, outdoor prone, 40 shots, at 100 yards any sights in 1949 and with her husband Kenneth Johnson teamed to win the Lyman Doubles National Match in Iowa, being the only woman to ever win the event. She was a member of the International Dewar team which shot against the English speaking countries at Ottawa, Canada in 1950.

She set a national record for women as a member of the Frazier-Simplex ladies team In 1955, with a score of 1,132 and a national women’s record of 194 for 20 shots kneeling at 50 feet indoors.

She was high women’s shooter in Pittsburgh Suburban and Mon Valley Rifle Leagues.

She began trap shooting in 1958 and won more honors including breaking 100 x 100 birds in the 1962; West Penn Trap League postseason shoot; won the Grand American Ladies Preliminary Handicap championship in 1964; was West Virginia open preliminary handicap champion in 1976 and had high handicap average for women for the state of Pennsylvania in 1978, shooting at 1,600 registered birds and breaking 1,446. She was named to the Pennsylvania Ladies Trap Shooting team in 1979 when she retired from shooting.
