Sam Marra, Jr. was a two-time All-WPIAL and All-Western Conference football player for Trinity High School from 1965 to 1967. Marra was also Honorable Mention
All-State and a Big 33 Nominee.

Sam then went on to play for Indiana State University where he was awarded a full scholarship. A three-year starter from 1968-1970, the Sycamores were 21-8-1 during his time there.

From 1971-1972, Marra became a graduate assistant coach at Indiana State University. For nearly twenty years, beginning in 1973, Sam coached high school football in the state of Georgia. His team’s accomplishments include:

• Three regional championships at Griffin High School
• Ranked seventh in the state at Villa Rice High School
• Coach of the Year honors at Newton County High School where his team was the first from the school to make the state playoffs as 8AAAA Regional Champions

Sam was also a member of the coaching staff for the North-South All-Star Game.

Following a very successful coaching career, Marra became a principal and the athletic director at Oconee County High School.

In 1998, he was named Georgia State Athletic Director of the Year. During his tenure as athletic director, many of the school’s teams achieved regional and state championship status.
