VALERIO JANSANTE

Valerio (Val) Jansante, a native and resident of Bentleyville, played football and basketball at Bentleyville High School and won a full scholarship to Duquesne University, where he played on football teams that won 17 games in a row before he entered the U.S. Navy in 1943.

Jansante transferred to Villanova University where he continued his football career and played against a team known as the Steegles, a combination of Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles’ players. He later played in Oakland, California for a team known as Fleet City.

He started his National Football League career with the Steelers in 1946 and played six seasons as a starting end, being namedd to the All-League team in 1947. He led the team in pass receptions for five consecutive seasons.

Jansante ended his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers and later was a high school teacher and coach at Bentleyville, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Mon Valley Catholic and Bentworth.
