1987 – WRESTLING

William DePaoli of Washington, a native of Follansbee, WV., achieved the distinction of winning WPIAL and PIAA wrestling titles in the 95-pound class as a seventh grader in 1945 at the age of 13, competing for Chartiers-Houston High School.

In four years of scholastic wrestling, he compiled a 52-4 record.

DePaoli also played three years of varsity football at Chartiers-Houston.

He wrestled for the Washington YMCA team coached by Dr. William Harris in 1959 and 1960 and was undefeated in six matches. He also won AAU tournaments at 120 pounds in 1948 and 127 pounds in 1949.

DePaoli is a retired employee of Washington Steel Co.
